A Season of Self-Discovery

She’s Got a Story: Dixie

From kids’ yoga classes to her mental wellness clients to her son, Dixie’s love for others is evident as she speaks. Having faced her own struggles, she knows what it is to feel suppressed and to seek health and wholeness.

A journey of self-discovery has brought Dixie into a beautiful season, and this interview prompted her to begin thinking about her story. “I was thinking about this because I was like, I don’t even know what my story is. I feel like there is a huge part of me that was suppressed because of my divorce and other things. I really had a huge period of time that I just sort of lost myself because I was being sort of manipulated and controlled by other people. Now, I feel like I am at this point in my life when I can actually try to reconnect with who I am. It can be difficult. Sometimes I just realize, wait, you can do whatever you want. A lot of self-discovery right now – reconnecting with myself.”

Returning to her roots and learning to honor who she was when she was younger helped shape Dixie’s business, North Acre Life Enhancement. “It is holistic life and mental wellness coaching. I am going to use what I know. I have a lot of experience with education and teaching, and coaching. I am taking a more organic and more traditional approach. A lot of people don’t want to go right to medicines, so what I do is Reiki, Bach flower consultations, mindfulness and meditation, crystals and rocks, essential oils, nutritional coaching, and looking at what is going on in all aspects of your life. Trying to heal the root cause of the issues. Because a lot of times, the way the system is set up it’s lets just slap a Band-Aid on it.  Helping people balance their lives more organically and holistically, and then working with the other people in their lives like a licensed therapist or a doctor.”

“I find it fascinating that a lot of the stuff I do in my business I was doing as a small child and didn’t even realize what I was doing. I was doing a lot of meditation, energy work, and intuitively doing that when I was young and had no clue. In high school, I wrote a term paper on yoga. It’s just weird how, throughout my life, some of these things were there. I wish I would have just done this twenty years ago. This has just been there the entire time, and I am just realizing and embracing it.”

Dixie’s love for people shows in her face as she speaks. “I’ve always wanted to empower others. I’ve always wanted to give people that voice that I have been able to find in myself. I know that I am not the only one who has felt suppressed. I just want to be that person that can empower somebody else, and help them find their voice.”

When I asked her to describe herself in one word, Dixie said, “Spunky. I think because I have always gone against the grain. I have always marched to the beat of my own drum. I have never been afraid to question things. Thankfully, it hasn’t gotten me in too much trouble. I am not afraid of doing the hard stuff when it comes right down to it.”

It’s that spunk that helped her step out on her own as a businesswoman. It’s that spunk that helps her inspire clients to seek the best path of healing and health for themselves. It’s that spunk that will carry Dixie through this season of self-discovery and help her honor herself and her dreams.

Dixie and I had a side conversation about the season(s) of finding yourself and learning to honor who you were and are. It's funny how one conversation can help you feel validated and seen (thanks for that, Dixie!). From her gentle manner to her laugh to her funky sweater and her spunky self, Dixie reminded me of the beauty of midlife and being exactly who you are.
